1968年11月，披合唱的John Lennon於妥了和妻子Cynthia Powell的婚。次年3月20日，就Yoko Ono ( 小野洋子 ) 赴英海外地Gibraltar ( 直布陀 ) 婚，蜜月至荷阿姆斯特丹的希店 ( Amsterdam Hilton Hotel ) ，以反越主，展期一的「床上和平 ( Bed-Ins for Peace ) ( 3/25─3/31 )」。此首《The Ballad of John And Yoko》即Lennon和Ono婚及次活的相容。【 ：第二段的「床上和平」於加拿大蒙特的伊莉莎白女王酒店 ( Queen Elizabeth Hotel )，亦期一 ( 5/26─6/1 )。】

1969/04/14，John Lennon了首歌去到了Paul McCartney的家，由於之前John的一首《More Popular Than Jesus》曾引起，Paul好意提醒新歌中有「Christ」，而最後是同意助。在此曲的候，主奏吉他手George Harrison正在休假，鼓手Ringo Starr也正在拍影《The Magic Christian》，此Lennon忽然建，不必等了，就由他和McCartney也可完成 ( 以多重方式 )，果人的分工：
John Lennon─主唱、主奏吉他、原音吉他、拍打器。
Paul McCartney─合音、士、鼓、琴、沙槌。
此曲Lennon所，而McCartney亦名共同作者，是出於人前有的「例」，但看McCartney在此曲中的出力不少。
然是了要「床上和平」的新潮，此曲於段的「」之後 ( 1969的5及6月 )，分在英、美行。在英，此披的第17首、同也最後一首的冠曲；在美是拿下了排行榜第8名。而果如McCartney事前所料，由於歌中有「Christ」及「crucify」等字眼，部份的美台，因有所忌而少了播放 ( 此曲甚至未出在全美排名前40大、芝加哥的WLS及的WABC的台中 )。同了歌中的「Peter Brown( ：的特助理 ) called to say"You can make it OK,You can get married in Gibraltar, near Spain"，由於西班牙於直布陀的土主，和英之一直存有，此曲也遭到西班牙政府的。
