此曲John Denver於1966所，原歌名是《Babe, I Hate to Go》。同一年，他此曲同其他15首歌，自了250黑唱片，作物分送友。後接受唱片作人的建，才歌名改《Leaving on a Jet Plane》。
由於Peter，Paul and Mary三重唱和John Denver所的民合唱The Mitchell Trio，同一唱片作人，由作人的引介，Peter，Paul and Mary在1967唱了尚未正式行的此曲，收在《Album 1700》中。有些的是，推出後，此曲未受到何目，直至1969另行曲，才始在排行榜一路攀升，最後到告示牌100的第一名，也是Peter，Paul and Mary在榜唯一的一首冠曲。
英New Order在1989推出的一首《Run 2》，由於吉他奏部份和《Leaving on a Jet Plane》於相似 ( 有重之嫌 )，被John Denver的唱片出版商告上法院得。迄後《Run 2》的作曲者亦由John Denver共同名。
John Denver最炙人口的歌曲，就是那首《Take Me Home, Country Road》了。1997，John Denver小失事，享年53。然不是射，但也真的是坐去了。
